Auditors‑General from Developing Countries Share experiences in Leadership

Auditors‑General from developing countries gathered in Nairobi for leadership workshop under the INTOSAI Development Initiative (IDI) Mastery Leadership Development Programme. The forum, themed “Leading Myself, Leading Others,” brought together leaders from English‑speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs). The programme’s goal is to strengthen leadership capacity and share practical experiences in public sector oversight.

The workshop aimed to build networks that support leaders in navigating modern governance challenges, especially in emerging areas in transparency, accountability, and institutional transformation.

During the session, Kenya’s Auditor‑General, Nancy Gathungu, expressed her appreciation for hosting the SAI leaders and commended their dedication to advancing leadership excellence and reinforcing accountability in Public Finance Management.

She further highlighted that leadership extends beyond holding a position and is a continuous practice that demands vision, resilience, creativity, empathy, and cross‑border collaboration.

The event was also graced by His Excellency Mirko Giulietti, Ambassador of Switzerland to Kenya, who underscored the importance of global partnerships in strengthening governance systems. He emphasized that collaboration plays a vital role in enhancing transparency, accountability, and integrity within public institutions.

Mr. Ola Hoem, Deputy Director‑General of the IDI, praised SAI leaders for their commitment to steering institutions amid rapidly evolving public sector landscapes. He noted that current expectations ranging from digital transformation to increasing demands for transparency require more than technical auditing expertise; they call for adaptive, people‑centered leadership.
