Performance auditors from the African region have graduated after completing a Three-Module Training Course that was hosted by Office of the Auditor-General, Kenya.
The auditors drawn from Rwanda, Liberia, Uganda, Nigeria, The Gambia, Sudan and Kenya successfully completed the prerequisite training, a model adopted by the African Organisation of English-speaking Supreme Audit Institutions (AFROSAI-E). The performance audit training programme is based on a combination of theoretical and practical exercises.
The Auditor-General, CPA Nancy Gathungu, CBS, noted that performance audit is increasingly becoming an area of public interest globally. As a result, she called for enhanced capacity building in performance audit to promote effective and efficient governance in the region’s audit institutions.
“As we conduct our audits, let us keep in mind the provision of INTOSAI P-12 on the value and benefits of SAIs in making a difference to the lives of the citizens”, the AG said.
International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) is the global umbrella body for audit institutions. The performance auditors were also taken through sessions on improving the quality of audit reports as well as interview techniques during the audit exercise.
The Finalisation Course organised by AFROSAI-E, had commenced in September, 2019 but was disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic. Programme facilitators were drawn from Botswana, Norway, Kenya, Ghana and AFROSAI-E.
The performance auditors will be expected to share the knowledge and skills gained with their colleagues in respective institutions.
